Why am I dedicating a post to Michael Jackson? Michael Jackson is one of the biggest influences in my life. The blazer I am wearing in this photoshoot is MJ inspired, giving myself an excuse to write about one of my favorite artists. If you want to learn how to brand yourself in any business, there is plenty to learn from MJ because he was a branding powerhouse. To be a brand, you need have a signature; what do people know you for? How do you stand out? The way he dressed and the way he performed always exceeded everyones expectations. This is a trait I have always tried to emulate in my life, go the extra mile because its never crowded. I remember the first time I ever seen him perform; I was 5 years old. My parents put on his live concert on the TV (before Netflix). The whole performance gave me chills down my spine and not the Netflix kind of chills. I was astonished; his dance moves were like magic and from that moment... I was HOOKED. Fun Fact: In the 6th grade I won first place in the talent show contest for performing "Billie Jean" and even moonwalked across stage as if I've been practicing for days (because I was). When I was young I locked myself in my room on the weekends and fast forward and rewinded (no DVD's back then) all of Michael's videos and learn the dances in and out. And yes I had the hat, the gloves, and the socks. You can see my favorite Michael Jackson performance here. He performs Billie Jean live. The whole performance is amazing, feel free to skip to 6:00 for his solo.
As far as Michael's style goes, it was eccentric, flashy and outlandish and I loved every bit of it. When he walked into a room you knew he was there and he didn't need to say a word. So his fans in the back row could see him moonwalk, Jackson danced in white socks covered with nearly 5,000 rhinestones (each hand sewn) and high-water pants — or “floods” as Jackson called them. Military-inspired jackets became his trademark because the style was worn by royalty during Victorian times as a form of entertainment (see pictures below). Jackson's fashion designer, Michael Bush helped Michael Jackson's visions come alive. You can find out more about how they worked together creatively for 25 years here.

Michael Jackson went on to influence the whole world through his music, fashion and ideas. Justin Timberlake, Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, Ciara, Drake, Jason Derulo, Usher, Madonna, Justin Bieber, Ne-Yo, Prince, Bruno Mars, The Weekend, and Chris Brown just to name a few. These artist's admit that they wouldn't be who they are now if it wasn't for the inspiration of MJ. Balmain and other fashion houses were heavily influenced by Michael Jacksons fashion as well. Below you will see Beyonce's Super Bowl outfit in 2016 was inspired by Michael Jackson's Superbowl outfit in 1992.

Jackson's style is instantly recognizable and often imitated. His execution of the moonwalk was unlike anyone had seen before. He turned the breakdancing move into something that looked gravity defying. See his moonwalk here at the 1995 MTV Award Show.
What I loved most about Michael was that he was and still is one of the biggest brands in the world. He built a multi-billion dollar brand on being unique. The "King Of Pop" has sold over 750 million albums worldwide. I truly believe branding yourself is the number one factor to your success especially in entertainment. When Michael released an album, project or produced a concert everyone knew he was going to over deliver and it was always something unique. Everything Michael Jackson touched turned into gold because he was a perfectionist but also knew how to sell himself to the world with his signature moves and style. Michael Jackson always thought out of the box instead of just doing regular music videos, he actually produced short films for his songs, in example Thriller

What is your signature?
What is your signature? What do people know you for? If you don't have one, find it; it is already inside of you. It doesn't have to be a physical trait, it can be a personality trait. It could be as simple as your laugh, how you treat people, your scent or how you wear your hair. Michael Jackson's was his fashion, spin, scream, moonwalk, glove, voice and many more! Now you can see why he was a branding powerhouse because he has many signatures to choose from and was very strategic on how to market it to his fans. My signature is my style, I always love wearing a clothing piece that pops but people also know me for my charisma, being open and inspiring others. For example I was at dinner the other night and in under 2 minutes I was already talking with the waiter about his family and what is next in life for him after being a waiter. What is your signature? Do some soul searching, find it, share it with the world and capitalize on it.
The jacket I am wearing in this photoshoot is from Zara. You can find it here. I get more compliments on my Zara clothing then my designer wardrobe; this goes to show you it is truly about the fit and how you wear it. What I LOVE MOST about this jacket is that it reminds me of the jacket Michael Jackson wore when he met with Ronald and Nancy Regan at the white house. You can see multiple pictures here. It is royalty and military inspired. I decided to wear white pants and a white shirt to give attention the blazer. My motto is "its all about the jacket".
